1876 novel by george eliot5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Following her father’s death in 1849, Eliot fully embraced a new life she moved to London, where she began work editing and writing for the radical Westminster Review. In this new intellectual context, Eliot began her translation of Strauss’s Das Leben Jesu (published anonymously in 1846). ![]() In 1828, she became a fervent Evangelical, but when Eliot and her father moved to Coventry in 1841, she encountered the free-thinking Bray family, who initiated in Eliot an intellectual inquiry into the tenets of evangelicalism, which led her to disavow her earlier faith. Eliot’s early life in Warwickshire was crucial to her life as a writer: her surroundings provided her with material and inspiration for her later work and instilled a sense of the importance of memory to the individual’s development. Before she died in 1880, she had become one of the most notable women of the century and one of its leading novelists. George Eliot was born Mary Ann Evans in Warwickshire in 1819. ![]()

Doughnut economie5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() The first type is the re-development of the energy sector of the island. There are three types of aerial development on Curaçao that lend themselves for the transition to a circular economy. The current linear economy model (take-make-waste) of the island is disastrous, as it combines a mono-economy with the consumption-driven American dream. I personally jump-started conversations on the circular economy due to my concerns about the island’s oil-driven mentality and the ever-piling landfill. They also sparked events on the topic of the orange economy, in order to start facilitating its local creativity as an asset (the award-winning film Buladó is an example of this). The government focused on economic policy development for the blue economy to strengthen the business cases for sustainable fishery, tourism, and water sports. However, these pillars are in need of revision. Financial services, the oil refinery, tourism, trade, and logistics were the stable pillars of the island’s economy until the first decade of the millennium. ![]() They planted many seeds with the underlying goal to revive the economy, which was already in a recession prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the last few years the national government of Curaçao has been engaging with many concepts in order to diversify its view of the economy up to the SDG’s. ![]()

Giana darling inked in lies5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Protective, doesn’t find himself worthy of Lila or the family he was born into. Nova-An artist, the bad boy, likes to test limits, infamous tattooist, and a brother of the Fallen MC.Inked In Lies is a stunning portrayal that will captivate hearts and a story that features: This is a couple that we have seen in previous books and so happy to see the full breadth of their story and seeing what this couple is made of. I mean each installment is special in their own right, and I am not sure how this holds up to King’s story but somehow this one won my heart instantly and there isn’t really any taboo topics that deal with this couple so that is something I think that was special….unlike the other books in the series, while there is a sense of the “unreachable” in this book, this is a story that I think many will find is touchable in an easier way than some of the other books in the series. I wasn’t sure what I was quite expecting, I just knew after reading this author that she would tear me apart and sideways before putting everything back together again and I can tell you that this one just might be my favorite of the series overall. Inked In Lies is the fifth installment in the “Fallen Men” series and its a fantastic installment, this was a easy five star read for me. ![]() This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review. ![]()

Michael Moorcock by Michael Moorcock5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Moorcock’s first venture into writing and publishing came before his tenth birthday, hand-producing and selling fanzines - the first of which was Outlaws Own - at school. His upbringing was as varied as his schooling was unorthodox, with relatives across the whole social spectrum (from factories to 10, Downing Street). As the war came to an end, his father left the family home and young Michael was brought up an only child by his mother, whose employer - Ernst Jellinek, an Austrian Jew and disciple of Rudolf Steiner’s strange brand of Christian mysticism - became an important, early educational influence on Moorcock (who was the first pupil ever to be expelled from Michael Hall School in Sussex, an enlightened, liberal Steiner school). Moorcock was born on 18th December, 1939, in Mitcham, South London, shortly after the outbreak of World War Two. ![]() ![]() He has been compared to Balzac, Dickens, Dumas, Ian Fleming, James Joyce, Robert E. Author of around a 100 books and more than 150 shorter stories in practically every genre, he has been the recipient of several lifetime achievement awards, including the Prix Utopiales, the SFWA, the Stoker and the World Fantasy, and has been inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. MICHAEL MOORCOCK - listed recently by the London Times as among the fifty greatest British writers since 1945 - is one of the most important and influential figures in SF and fantasy literature. ![]()

Spqr book5/10/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() From the foundational myth of Romulus and Remus to 212 cenearly a thousand years later - when the emperor Caracalla gave Roman citizenship to every free inhabitant of the empire, S.P.Q.R. Yet how did all this emerge from what was once an insignificant village in central Italy? In S.P.Q.R., world-renowned classicist Mary Beard narrates the unprecedented rise of a civilization that even two thousand years later still shapes many of our most fundamental assumptions about power, citizenship, responsibility, political violence, empire, luxury, and beauty. Ancient Rome was an imposing city even by modern standards, a sprawling imperial metropolis of more than a million inhabitants, a "mixture of luxury and filth, liberty and exploitation, civic pride and murderous civil war" that served as the seat of power for an empire that spanned from Spain to Syria. A sweeping, revisionist history of the Roman Empire from one of our foremost classicists. ![]()
